Margarette Golding Award
Mrs. Oliver Golding,

In 2000 at the 11th Convention in Stockholm, the establishment of an award in the name of the founder of Inner Wheel, Margarette Golding, was recommended and accepted.

A Margarette Golding Award may be given for highly commendable service to the community, either personally or through Inner Wheel. It can be presented to a member of Inner Wheel or members of the public whose highly commendable contribution to the community an Inner Wheel Club or District wishes to recognize.
The award is not given for members who have filled a number of positions in Inner Wheel over many years. Members who have given long and valuable service to Inner Wheel but who do not qualify for a Margarette Golding Award, may be recognized with the award of Honoured Active Membership.
Applications for the Margarette Golding Award must be made on the original application form as required by International Inner Wheel. Guidelines and forms may be obtained by contacting the National Representative.

In February 2002, National Representative, Mrs. Ashnadelle Hilmy/Mortagy recommended to International Inner Wheel that the Margrette Golding award be given to

H.E. Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak for the following:

Dedication to improving the quality of life of children and the empowerment of women
in Egypt through outstanding work in education, health-care and social development.

and to H.R.H. Princess Basma Bint Talal of Jordan for the following:
Dedication to improving the quality of life of children and the empowerment of women
in Jordan through outstanding work in education, health-care and social development.

     Both the First Lady of Egypt and H.R.H. Princess Basma of Jordan were awarded the Margarette Golding Award at the same time.

Award Ceremony in Cairo for H.E. Mrs. Mubarak


The ceremony for H.E. Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak`s award took place in Cairo at the Inner Wheel Day celebration in January 2003 and was attended by the new National Representative, Mrs. Nani Saleh and the past National Representative Mrs. Ashnadelle Hilm/Mortagy, 2002-2003 Chairman, Mrs. Nelly Bahtimy/Helmy as well as 2001-2002 past Chairman, Mrs. Ghaneya Al Tayeh and members of Inner Wheel Clubs.

The State Information Service reported that upon receiving the award for her pioneering work for the welfare of Egyptian society, Mrs. Mubarak identified in her address, the main responsibilities of national voluntary work in the light of participation with the governments in overcoming the problems of overpopulation, illiteracy and contribution in developing activities of education, culture and modernization in addition to diminishing the unemployment rate and encouraging small scale enterprises.
Moreover, Mrs. Mubarak stressed the importance of the role of Egyptian NGOs in the empowerment of women and the development and care of motherhood and childhood as well as the care for children and adults with special needs along with the protection of the environment and the country's heritage.

The ceremony for H.R.H. Princess Basmaa Bint Talal's award took place in Jordan during the summer of 2002 and was attended by The National Representative, Mrs. Ashnadelle Hilm/Mortagy, 2001-2002 Chairman, Mrs. Ghaneya Al Tayeh as well as 2003-2004 Chairman, Mrs. Nelly Bahtimy/Helmy and members of the Amman and Philadelphia Clubs.

The Jordan Times reported

HRH Princess Basma on Tuesday receives
the Margrette Golding Award in Amman

"HRH Princess Basma on Tuesday receives the Margrette Golding Award in Amman, awarded by the International Inner Wheel Organization, the second largest women`s organization in the world. The medal was presented to the Princess by Ashnadelle Hilmy/Mortagy, the organization`s District 95 National Representative for Jordan, Lebanon, and Egypt.
At the meeting with the Inner wheel delegation, Princess Basma praised the organization's work in the humanitarian and social fields, saying it reflects a spirit of cooperation and solidarity. Hilmy said the medal, the most prestigious voluntary work award offered by the organization, comes in recognition of the pioneering role of Princess Basma in social work and efforts to enhance the status of Arab women and children."
