A Literacy Classes Protocol was signed by Chairman, Mrs. Samia Aboul Fotouh with Dr. Raafat Radwan, Ministry of Education and the General Authority for Literacy and Adult Education (GALAE)

A protocol was signed with the Egyptian authorities to start 5 Literacy classes in the Mashabek area in the Guiza Governorate. These classes will be coordinated with Health instruction as well as instruction for the blind and sponsoring of small village projects in conjunction with literacy classes through the auspices of Inner Wheel Clubs in Cairo, Alexandria, Ismailia, Mansoura and Sharm El Sheikh. More of our District clubs are starting to organize more classes throughout the country.

The Ministry of Education and the General Authority for Literacy and Adult Education (GALAE) have been preparing for the "Century Project" for the past year. This project ‘which is under the auspices of President Hosni Mubarak's aims to teach 7.5 million people over the next 5 years to read and write. According to GALAE head Hussein Abbas, around 50,000 college graduates will be trained to teach 1.5 million illiterates a year.
